Smiths Van Man started in 2019 as a simple promise: turn up on time, look after people's belongings like they were our own, and charge a fair price. Six years and 108 reviews later that hasn't changed.

We're a family operation based in Belle Isle, LS10 — not a national chain pretending to be local. That means flexible bookings (yes, including evenings and weekends), an actual person answering the phone, and a van that pulls up when we said it would. Bereavement clearances, last-minute single items, motorbike recoveries — if it can fit in the van, we'll consider it.

What size loads do you take? +

We're set up for small to medium loads — flats, smaller houses, single items, room-by-room moves. If you've got a 4-bed mansion's worth, we'll tell you straight and help you find someone with a bigger truck. Send us a quick list or photo and we'll let you know.

Do you work evenings and weekends? +

Yes — that's one of the main reasons we exist. Lots of folks can't move during 9-to-5 because of work, schools, or new tenancy start dates. We'll do early mornings, late evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Same price, no weekend surcharges.

What does "licensed waste carrier" actually mean? +

It means we're registered with the Environment Agency (CBDU481655) to legally transport and dispose of waste. So when we clear out your old furniture, garden waste or end-of-tenancy junk, it goes to a licensed facility and there's a paper trail — not down a country lane. Most man-with-vans don't have this. We do.

Are you actually insured? +

Yep — goods-in-transit and public liability cover for every job. If anything goes wrong (touch wood, in six years it's been very rare), you're not left out of pocket. Happy to share certificate details on request before you book.

Can you do last-minute / same-day bookings? +

Often yes, depending on what's already booked in. If you've had a removals firm cancel on you, picked up a Marketplace bargain, or just need something shifted today — ring us. If we can fit you in, we will. If we can't, we'll be honest about it.

What won't you take? And how do I pay? +

No hazardous waste (paints, chemicals, asbestos, fridges with gas), no live animals, and we'll politely decline anything we don't think we can move safely. Beyond that — ask. Payment: cash on completion, bank transfer, or card. Whatever's easiest for you.
